Bin Laden: Seized documents show delusional leader and micromanager

There is no better way for historians to assess Osama bin Laden's thinking and the real state of al Qaeda as it was understood by its leaders in the years after 9/11 than the "treasure trove" of more than 6,000 documents that were recovered by the U.S. Navy SEALs who raided bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, a year ago.

Tiger Woods plans to take questions from fans instead of the media

If there's one thing Tiger Woods can't stand, it's talking to the media early in the week. Now, he won't say it publicly, but you can tell from his pre-tournament answers that he'd rather be anywhere but in the media center.

So it shouldn't come as a surprise that Woods is flipping the script and passing on fielding questions from the media, prior to the start of the Well Fargo Championship, for the chance to do a prerecorded video interview where he answers softball questions from Twitter and Facebook followers.

Woods' agent Mark Steinberg confirmed the 14-time major winner would be doing this a couple times during the season in an effort to beef up Team Tiger's social media presence. If you believe those comments from Steinberg, then I'd like to offer you some prime oceanfront property in Arizona for a cool million.

Here's the deal: I don't have a problem with Woods trying to embrace social media and interact with his fans on a weekly basis, but do it when you're not coming off a lengthy layoff. Woods hasn't played since the Masters, so I'm pretty sure golf scribes would appreciate a quote or two before the start of the tournament.

This isn't an either-or scenario; Woods can answer questions from both groups. And that's why this decision is so darn confusing. Woods deserves a lot of credit for sitting down pre-tournament and taking questions after each round; there's no question he does more interviews than any golfer on tour.

[ Also: LPGA star Lexi Thompson makes special ask to servicemen for from date]

But when you're the biggest name in the sport, it's expected that you're going to be in the spotlight every time you tee it up. Passing on talking to the media early in the week is weak. But adding a prerecorded video interview in its place? That pretty much tells me he doesn't want to talk.

If Woods doesn't want to talk to the media after his struggles at the Masters, that's his prerogative. But don't say the reason you're passing on the media center is because you want to become social media savvy. It just makes you look silly ... just like the answers Woods usually posts on his Twitter account.

Lazio allow empty-net goal after fake final whistle

Down 1-0 to Udinese in the final minute of added time, Lazio brought goalkeeper Federico Marchetti forward on a last-chance corner kick. Though Marchetti swung his head at the ball, nothing came of the corner and he had to jog back to his own goal.

Moments later, an Udinese clearance was followed by what sounded like the final whistle came from the crowd. Many of the player stopped, thinking the match was over, but Udinese's Roberto Pereyra didn't. Instead, Pereyra took a shot from outside of the box after Marchetti had abandoned his net and scored to put Udinese up 2-0. As Udinese celebrated, Lazio protested and shoved a couple of the officials.

It took about five minutes for enough calm to be restored so the match could resume and the ref could blow the actual final whistle. After the match, Lazio refused to speak to the press, but Udinese midfielder Giampiero Pinzi gave his account (via Football Italia):

"I heard a whistle from the crowd. TheLazioplayers suddenly stopped and thought it was the referee,"UdinesemidfielderPinzitoldMediasetPremium.

"Pereyracontinued and perhaps hadrealisedit wasn't the official. In all honesty, I'm not sure what the rule book states in these cases, but the game would've finished with that move anyway.

"It's a shame there was this mark on the night after a greatperformance."

In the end, Pinzi is probably right that the incident didn't change the outcome, but from now on Lazio will probably play a good five minutes past any whistle they hear from the referee or otherwise.

St. Louis Blues (2) vs. Los Angeles Kings (8): 10 things to know about semifinal series (Preview)

The No. 2 seed St. Louis Blues and the No. 8 seed Los Angeles Kings will clash in the Western Conference semifinals beginning Saturday night in St. Louis. Here are 10 items for your consideration about this matchup.

10.Goals? Where we're going, we don't need goals

First, let's clear up a misconception: both of these teams can score just fine. The Kings may have been offensively inept for most of the season, averaging just above 2 goals per game, but the Jeff Carter trade balanced out their lines and notably improved the offense. They've averaged 3 goals per game since. The Blues, meanwhile, were a middle-of-the-pack offensive team. Not great, but not terrible.

Still, don't expect offense. Both of these teams excel at preventing it.From NHL.com:

The Blues were the League's stingiest team in the regular season allowing just 155 goals for a total of 1.89 goals per game. The Kings, however, were second, allowing just 170 goals for a total of 2.07 goals per game.

Those trends have carried over into the playoffs, as each team allowed a League-low eight goals in winning their first-round playoff series in five games.

Some might find this is boring, but consider this: everyone loves overtime. This entire series will effectively be overtime, meaning the inevitable overtime will be super overtime.

9. Shutouts ahoy!

The Kings have a Vezina nominee in Jonathan Quick, who led the league in shutouts with 10. The Blues counter with the tandem of Brian Elliott and Jaroslav Halak, who combined for 15 shutouts and the Jennings trophy.

If the regular season is any indication, expect this one to have more goose eggs than an Aesop fable. In both games with Darryl Sutter and Ken Hitchcock behind the benches, the final score was 1-0. Furthermore, in 4 contests this year, the two teams have combined for 4 shutouts, two of which came in the same game, a 1-0 shootout win for the Kings.

8. The hits just keep coming

The Kings and the Blues were 3rd and 4th in road hits this season, which is good news, since it's literally impossible for any of these games to be played without a road team.

The two teams combined for 231 hits in the 4-game season series and, if T.J. Oshie is to be believed, both teams are expecting a continuation of that physical battle to determine the series. From the Toronto Sun:

"I think the more physical team is going to win," Blues forward T.J. Oshie said. "Whoever plays the most physical the longest is going to get the job done."

Okay, so goals may be scarce. But this could be the most physical first-round series in years.

7. The LA Kings' Twitter account is the sassiest team Twitter account in all the land

It wasn't just their "you're welcome" tweet. The Kings' social media team ruffled the feathers of Canuck fans in every game of the postseason's first round, and Blues fans on Twitter can expect respectful jabs in their direction all through the second round. This is even more likely when you consider that the Kings are coming up on 100,000 followers. They're motivated.

6. Backes vs. Kopitar.

Both of these teams are loaded with big, two-way centres, but the match up the middle that will matter most is David Backes versus Anze Kopitar.

Kopitar is the star of the Kings' attack. He's the only player with more than 60 points on the year, and as he goes, so go the Kings. He'll be in tough to go, however, with the Selke-nominated David Backes all over him. Backes smothers and punishes his assignments. Can Kopitar withstand the kind of assault Backes puts the opposition's top guy through on a nightly basis?

5. Hollywood vs. Jon Hamm

There are so many celebrities in the audience at Kings game that the Kings have created their own channel to keep track of them. But look at this list. Sure, the Staples Centre has celebrity backing hither and thither, but for every Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, there's a Cuba Gooding Jr.

The Blues, on the other hand, will really just be sending one guy: Don freaking Draper.

Sure, it's a roster of one, but at least St. Louis's celebrity roster is all A-listers.

4. Doughty vs. Pietrangelo

Drew Doughty and Alex Pietrangelo were drafted 2nd and 4th overall, respectively, in a 2008 draft class that revolutionized several teams from the backend. Three years later, these two are the puck-moving engines of two of the Western Conference's elite.

Doughty's emergence happened first, which is to be expected from the more exciting player. But Pietrangelo has evolved into as steady a blueliner as there is in the league. He just missed out on a Norris trophy this season for being the defensive rock of the league's best defensive team. I'd say he quietly surpassed Doughty this year.

Doughty remains the gamebreaker, however. He could be the most offensively gifted player in the series, and he'll need to be in order for the Kings to get the upper hand in this series.

3. 1967 expansion cousins

Both of these teams came into the NHL in 1967, and neither has won a bloody thing since. Who will overcome the curse of 1967 first?

2. History favours the Kings

The Kings have are 0-8 versus the Blues in the postseason. From STL Today:

This willbe the third timethat the Blues andL.A., who both entered the league asexpansion teams in 1967,will meet in the postseason. The others were 1969 and 1998, andboth times the Blues swept the Kings in four games.

The Blues really set the stage back in 1969. Can they maintain that momentum into a fifth decade?

1. Prediction

Blues in 7. T.J. Oshie may think this series will come down to physicality, but I think it will come down to discipline. These teams are very evenly-matched, but if there's a difference I see, it's that the Blues' core is just that much more reliable, that much more disciplined. They don't push, they don't overextend themselves, and they rarely make mistakes. In a series where limiting mistakes will be key, the Blues have the slightest edge.

#33-37: Rams reinforce receiver corps with Brian Quick, Luck to Fleener again

33: St. Louis Rams -- Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State -- Sam Bradford gets a big target with the ability to get downfield, and game tape that belies his small-school status. Some fundamental concerns in transitioning to the NFL, but given the receivers the Rams had last year, just about anything is an upgrade.

[Silver: Rams land next T.O. in Brian Quick]

34: Indianapolis Colts -- Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford -- Well, who didn't expect this when Fleener dropped out of the first round? The Colts have a lot of rebuilding to do, but this is a great start -- Fleener was Andrew Luck's best red zone target, and he'll perform that function in Bruce Arians' offense. Imagine Heath Miller with more speed, and you'll get the idea.

35: Baltimore Ravens -- Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama -- Baltimore let the draft come to them, and boy, were they rewarded. Put Upshaw on the other side of Terrell Suggs, give him a post-graduate degree from Ball So Hard U., and you could have a 10-sack player with the ability to line out to more of a traditional OLB role in nickel fronts. Right place, right time.

[Yahoo! Sports Shop: Buy NFL player T-shirts and team gear]

36. Denver Broncos -- Derek Wolfe, DT, Cincinnati -- The Broncos have a real need for interior beef, and Wolfe is a natural fit for the hybrid fronts put forth by John Fox and Jack Del Rio. A great fit for any team looking to move their tackles from run-stopping to gap-filling so that Elvin Dumervil and Vin Miller can do their collective thing.

37. Cleveland Browns -- Mitchell Schwartz, OT, Cal -- A surprise pick this high with Stanford's Jonathan Martin on the board, but Schwartz is a fundamentally correct player and a natural right tackle -- more a run-mauler than a pure pass-pro guy. A good fit with Trent Richardson as the offense's main man, and a nice bookend with Joe Thomas on the edge.
